Adults in the Brainerd Lakes Region who like to sing, are invited to audition for The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota, a renowned multi-community choir formed in 2002, located in the Brainerd Lakes Area.
The Legacy Chorale has four core values:
- We foster community.
- We create beauty and joy.
- We are enthusiastic for excellent choral music performance.
- We support choral music education.
We welcome likeminded people to sing with us.
Artistic Director Sarah Aamot is looking for singers of all voice parts—soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone / bass. She will be listening for musical skills like intonation and tone quality—whether a singer is suited to blending into choral sound or has solo ability. She’ll also be listening for ability to control vibrato and volume, vocal flexibility and expressiveness.
All who like to sing are encouraged to audition. Ability to sight read music is helpful but not necessary. There is no need to prepare a piece or bring music. Auditions are informal and comfortable. Simply show up anytime during the audition period and be ready to sing.
“We hold auditions so I can get to know singers’ voices,” Aamot explained, “so I can determine whether the tone quality of their voice blends well into our group and then place them in the right section.”
Upon acceptance into The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota, singers will be given season schedules, program information and membership guidelines. Each singer signs a “Statement of Understanding” contract, pays a membership fee of $90 (per concert season (fall/spring)) and pays for the cost of their own concert attire and transportation to rehearsals and concerts within 30 miles of Brainerd. Bus transportation is provided from Brainerd to concerts in Greater Minnesota. Singers may choose to perform in the autumn or spring concert series, or both.
Tuesdays from 6:00-8:30 p.m. in the choir room of Brainerd High School in Brainerd, MN. Singers from any community, large or small, are encouraged to audition. Currently there are more than 60 singers in The Legacy Chorale representing Aitkin, Baxter, Brainerd, Breezy Point, Crosby, Crosslake, Deerwood, East Gull Lake, Garrison, Hackensack, Ironton, Little Falls, Longville, Merrifield, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and Pillager.
